Mechanical Business columnist wins Cadmus Teaching Chair at SAIT

Fred Bretzke

Fred Bretzke, an instructor at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and a long-time plumbing columnist for Mechanical Business, has won the 2024 Cadmus Teaching Chair.

Bretzke has been an instructor at SAIT since 1990, and was the general manager at A&B Plumbing in Calgary, AB. He has written for Mechanical Business for more than a decade.

The Cadmus Trades Teaching Chair was founded by John Aldred, a British immigrant who attended SAIT in the 1960s. The award is designed to foster faculty excellence in skilled trades teaching and allows instructors to develop a project, idea or concept to enhance trades education.

Bretzke’s project will be a SAIT Supplement that will redefine the 2020 National Plumbing Code Appendix into a 3D QR Appendix. This supplement will include sections 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7 of the existing Code. This is the first edition hard copy, to be published and eventually sold at the SAIT bookstore. There will also be a digital copy available.

The March/April 2024 issue of Mechanical Business features Bretzke’s outline of the above project. Read more here.
