ClimateCare Canada has announced a partnership with Support Ontario Youth (SOY), an organization that assists apprentices and employers in the skilled trades.

SOY helps employers through the process of hiring an apprentice, and can assist employers and apprentices access financial programs, mentors and training opportunities, while reducing the burden of managing the apprenticeship education program.

As part of the partnership SOY has named Brandi Ferenc as an HVAC mentor. Ferenc is a journeyman and gas fitter 1 with Southlake Hospital in Newmarket, ON and an instructor at Georgian College in Barrie, ON. For more on Ferenc see “Workwear: A Perfect Fit” in the September/October 2021 issue of Mechanical Business.

“We are very pleased to have a partner organization like SOY now available to ClimateCare members,” says Victor Hyman, executive director of ClimateCare, Canada’s largest co-operative of residential HVAC contractors. “I hear from members and contractors across the country that finding, training and retaining HVAC professionals is the biggest impediment to growing their businesses. We expect that our members will find the resources SOY makes available, including apprentice mentoring from a passionate professional and educator like Brandi, to be a great aid moving forward.”

SOY’s goal is to streamline and modernize the apprenticeship process in Canada. The organization has the ability to register apprentices in various skilled trades, including plumbing, electrical, residential air conditioning mechanic, and low-rise sheet metal installer and millwright.
