Funding applications now open for community buildings
Infrastructure Canada is now accepting applications for funding under the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program (GICB).
Applicants for large-scale retrofits or new building projects for community buildings of $3- to $25-million have until July 6, 2021 to apply, while applications for small and mid-size projects of under $3 million will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
GICB is a five-year, $1.5-billion program designed to encourage the construction of more community buildings, while improving current community buildings by making them more energy efficient.
The program offers funding for green and accessible retrofits, repairs and upgrades of public community buildings, and construction of new community buildings serving high-needs and/or underserved communities. In addition, $150 million will go to Indigenous applicants for projects serving Indigenous populations and communities.
Eligible applicants include municipal, regional, provincial or territorial governments, public sector bodies, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous recipients. Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible.
