New guidelines on mass timber buildings
Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) have released new guidelines for architects and engineers designing mass timber buildings of up to 12 storeys.
The guidelines, Joint Professional Practice Guidelines – Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction up to 12 Storeys, cover information such as qualifications, professional practice, roles and responsibilities, and quality assurance. They also provide information and design options for mechanical, electrical, architectural, building enclosure, fire protection, acoustical, and structural design services.
The guidelines come as a result of changes to the BC Building and Fire Codes for mass timber buildings up to 12 storeys based on new building classifications.
Both organizations will offer an educational webinar this summer covering the guidelines.
