Energy Star announces 2021 award winners
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star program has announced the winners of its 2021 awards. The annual awards recognize the contributions by businesses and organizations in protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
There were 206 Energy Star award winners announced for last year, and more than 150 organizations being recognized in a variety of categories.
Ecobee – Award category: Partner of the Year; Award Name: Product Brand Owner; Sector: Product Design and Manufacturers. The award honours Toronto-based ecobee’s leadership in smart home innovations and intelligent software platforms, both designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The company’s smart thermostats have delivered 17.6 TWh of energy savings to date.
In 2020 ecobee trained more than 2,000 employees and HVAC contractors on the value of Energy Star, while promoting the program through social media campaigns. The company also contributed to the improvement of the Energy Star smart thermostat specification, and to the development of the Energy Star Smart Home Energy Management System specification.
QBD Cooling Systems Inc. — Award category: Excellence; Award Name: Product Design; Sector: Product Design and Manufacturers. Brampton, ON-based QBD Cooling Systems manufactures commercial refrigeration equipment. The company is being recognized for its leadership in developing energy-efficient products like hydrocarbon-based refrigeration systems.
Last year QBD improved its energy efficiency for its refrigeration equipment through integrated design to reduce charge amounts by up to 90.5 per cent. The company has provided Energy Star training to all its sales staff and service technicians, and has raised awareness of the Energy Star program through information sessions and social media.

Globe Electric Company (USA) Inc. – Award category: Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence; Award Name: Product Brand Owner; Sector: Product Design and Manufacturers. Based in Pointe-Claire, QC, Globe Electric Company produces lighting products.
Greenlite Lighting Corporation – Award category: Excellence; Award Name: ENERGY STAR Marketing; Sector: Product Design and Manufacturers. Montreal’s L’Image Home Products manufactures LED light bulbs and fixtures.
L’Image Home Products – Award category: Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence; Award Name: Product Brand Owner; Sector: Product Design and Manufacturers. Montreal’s L’Image Home Products manufactures LED light bulbs and fixtures.
