Manitoba offers businesses incentives to upgrade heating systems
Efficiency Manitoba is offering the province’s business owners incentives to make upgrading to ground source heat pumps more affordable.
Ground source heat pumps can reduce electric heating costs significantly.
To qualify for the heat pump program the project must be for a commercial building, and it must be heated for the entire heating season. The amount of the incentive is the lesser of:
- $2.50 per sq. ft. heated by a geothermal heat pump system; or
- $120 per MBH of installed geothermal heating capacity; or
- $120 per MBH of the buildings eligible base transmission and infiltration heating load.
To receive the incentive business owners must hire an installer who is registered with Efficiency Manitoba, and who is an accredited member of the Manitoba Geothermal Energy Alliance. The installer will submit an application for the project to Efficiency Manitoba, and once approved, business owners have one year to purchase and install the heating system. Incentives are released upon installation of the ground source heat pump.
