Banff converting wood waste into energy
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund is investing $530,000 to support a Banff, AB project that converts municipal waste into biomass energy. The project is expected to realize an accumulated greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction of 6,000 tonnes – the equivalent of removing 1,800 cars from the road for a year. The $1.3-million biomass system will replace natural gas usage with sustainable wood waste to heat four municipal buildings. The funding is also helping to increase the solar electricity capacity to the buildings.
