Emerson makes STEM fun for kids

Emerson and Lakeside Process Controls hosted their first “We Love STEM” Day for elementary and intermediate level school children from the southern Ontario on September 7.

Staged at Lakeside, an Emerson Impact Partner, in Mississauga, employees’ children participated in hands-on activities and experiments intended to develop their interest in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The kids were divided into stations featuring chemistry, catapult, and robotics. Then everyone came together to electronically erupt a 3 ft. volcano.

Launched in 2015, Emerson’s “We Love STEM” campaign has been involved in dozens of events around the world. YouTube star Hank Green also partners with Emerson to deliver fun, engaging video content on STEM topics.

Ryan Garrah, president, Emerson Canada, said, “Emerson and Lakeside are all about applying technology and engineering to help solve some of the world’s big challenges. Opening our children’s eyes to the importance of STEM proved to be a very positive experience.

“The kids were incredibly engaged in their workshops but had fun at the same time. We will continue our commitment to this program to demonstrate how our future employees can improve the world through STEM.”
