Amendments 15 and 16 to Energy Efficiency Regulations published

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has published amendments to Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations in the Canada Gazette Part II.

Amendments 15 and 16 update existing energy efficiency standards for a number of product categories to align with requirements in force or soon to be in force in the U.S.

Amendment 15 affects a number of HVAC/R products, including:
Residential: electric furnaces, gas furnaces (including mobile homes), gas boilers, gas fireplaces, heat recovery ventilators (HRV), oil-fired boilers and tankless water heaters (instantaneous water heaters).
Commercial/industrial: gas boilers, oil boilers, electric water heaters, gas and oil water heaters.

Amendment 16 affects products including:
Residential: air conditioners and heat pumps under 19 kW (65,000 BTUH) and ceiling fans (air flow). Commercial/industrial: chillers, pumps, vertical air conditioners and heat pumps (single package), and walk-in coolers and freezers.
