HVAC company’s furnace giveaway provides Oshawa a much-needed boost

November 27, 2018

General Motors’ decision this week to close their Oshawa production facility represents a devastating loss for the city located 60km east of Toronto on the Lake Ontario shoreline.

While residents come to terms with the news, at least one local family is set for some glad tidings this holiday season thanks to the big heart of one small business owner.

Adam Carson, 28, owner/operator of Stacks Heating and Air, is doing his bit to give a lift to his community by offering to install a free furnace for a household that finds itself in need this Christmas.

”I’ve always been the type of person that around the holidays tries to figure out some way to give back,” says Carson. ”And now that my business is doing better, I thought, ‘why not give someone a free furnace who may need it?’

”Being without heat in Canada in winter can be devastating – you can be financially ruined or your pipes can burst – there are so many things that can go wrong, so I thought giving away a furnace would be something I could do and I have the resources to be able to that now,” adds Carson, who started his business in 2012.

Carson will be giving away an Amana two-stage furnace, including free installation and a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat, worth around $3,500.

Anyone within the Durham Region is eligible to take part in the giveaway, either by nominating themselves or a family they know of who would really feel the benefit of an HVAC upgrade before winter really starts to bite.

Carson says, ”This is our first year (of giving away a furnace) but we are planning to do it again next year and the following year – hopefully it will just get bigger and bigger.

”Come the second week of December we’re going to close the contest and I’ll visit five families just to see what their furnace situation looks like and then we’re going to pick the winner from there.”

Anyone who would like to nominate themselves or someone they know for the chance to win the new furnace should send an email to [email protected] with their contact details and a short description of their circumstances by December 14.
